Georgia

Georgia was the ninth country visited during my world cycle tour, and certainly one of the greenest. It came as a bit of a shock to see the European Union flag at the Georgian border because I thought I had left Europe in Istanbul. However, the easternmost point of Europe is in fact Cape Flissingski on the island chain of Novaya Zemlya in Russia which is 69 degrees East, as far east as Tashkent in Uzbekistan! Georgian history is very diverse although it was difficult to squeeze into an A4 map. Prehistory and Roman history is touched upon whilst ascending the initial staircase.

The map of the USSR is replaced by the Georgian flag.

Due to the prevalence of Christianity and the beautiful ecclesiastical buildings, I decided to feature an imaginary place of worship, constructed in the shape of a cross to the centre of the map. This church features a monastery cell in the upper portion as well as a turret in the distinctive Georgian style.
